Centro (La Candelaria)
La Candelaria, commonly referred to as Centro, is MedellÃn’s historic downtown and one of the city’s most active and densely populated areas. It serves as a central hub for commerce, transportation, government offices, and cultural institutions. The neighborhood includes landmarks such as Plaza Botero, the Palace of Culture, and numerous museums, theaters, and historic buildings.
Centro is significantly busier than many other neighborhoods in MedellÃn, with large numbers of commuters, vendors, shoppers, and workers moving through the area each day. The district is well connected through multiple metro stations and major transportation routes, making it one of the most accessible parts of the city.
Because of its size and density, Centro contains a wide variety of environments, from commercial corridors and cultural districts to residential streets and traditional markets. The area offers a highly local experience, with many small businesses, street vendors, and everyday services serving residents from across MedellÃn.
